How to find the right space for you
Lets be honest, have you been working in a space that just doesn't bring you joy? Being happy and excited to go to work is a big deal. If you don't love where you work but you LOVE what you do... it can make your break your career. Sounds pretty silly right? But its soooooo true!
Being able to walk into a space where the decor is your vibe, changes how you feel. Having a clean work environment, changes how you feel. Enjoying the presence of the people around you, changes how you feel. Having the proper amenities to be able to work efficiently, changes how you feel.
If you don't love where you are currently, I challenge you to take a look around and explore your options. There are SO many places that you can rent. Don't let the amount of options overwhelm you. When we are upset and sick of where we are, we often quickly jump into a new space. You make the jump because you just need immediate change but often times its rushed and you end up not liking that space either.
When we move too fast and too often our clients will notice. Eventually they will get tired of chasing you and you as the service provider get tired of moving. So before you start looking, make a list of things that are important to you to operate your business. It is kind of like buying a house right? We will make some sacrifices but in the grand scheme of things, you want to know what you are looking for.
Some things to think about are:
-accessibility (for clients, specific times your allowed to work)
-common areas (breakroom, bathroom)
-laundry
-vibe of space
-location
-room setup (size, counter space, sink space)
-cleaning responsibilities
-lease term
-how/when rent is due
-utilities (internet, water, electric.. are they included?)
-what is provided in the room (chair, mirror, cabinetry)
-paint (who paints, are you allowed to paint?)
-signage
-temperature (if this is something that you struggle with, ask what it is kept at)
-security
Never be afraid to ask away, the more you know, the better! But I am going to wrap this up by saying... YOU CONTROL YOUR CAREER, don't feel trapped, there are always options.
